In any given day, a building manager may be asked a range of seemingly trivial questions such as:
- Where does this wire go?
- What is connected to the wire?
- Who will be affected if the wire is cut?
- What is the area of a certain flooring material used throughout a complex of buildings?
- What services run through the ceiling space over a particular room?
In reality, these queries are complex and potentially the answers are contained in multiple documents or drawings. It also is highly likely the source information is inaccurate, out-of-date, or may not even be available.
ActiveFacility’s mission is to provide solutions that answer these and any other questions relating to information about a particular building.
Industry research suggests that up to 80% of a facility manager’s time is devoted to finding information about their building and in 2002 the NIST report estimated the cost of the waste in the management of government buildings in the USA was USD$15.8 billion.
In response to the worldwide need, ActiveFacility, spearheaded by Cameron Stephenson, has:
- developed and is encouraging the use of a unified building model that assists in the management of information about a building
- provides ready access to the data, as well as
- created tools and processes to keep the data up-to-date.
